Outlook:
The Jets are known for their intimidating defense and statistically it showed. They allowed the sixth least amount of points (304) in the NFL last season. They also allowed the third least amount of yards (4,664). In 12 of the 16 games played against the Jets in the regular season, opponents could not score more than 20 points. On offense the team did not have a 1,000 yard rusher. However, combined they had 2,374 yards rushing which was fourth in the NFL. QB Matt Sanchez threw for 17 Td's and 3,291 yards in his second year, a marked improvement.
Strengths: This should be a good team overall again this year. With the constant improvement of Sanchez and most of the defense intact, the Jets should be a formidable foe for other AFC East contenders. The Jets are definitely a "throwback" team in the fact that their defense is the emotional leadership side of the ball. They have the attitude to get the job done. They did lose a couple of key players this year but that shouldn't slow them too much.
Weaknesses: There aren't too many weaknesses on this team. You may consider the fact they lost a few veterans in the off season as a weakness. But they have some young players that will fill in nicely. Also L.T. (Ladanian Tomlinson) is getting up there in years and may lose some productivity.
Betting Prognosis: The Jets won't surprise many bettors this year. They will be favored in most of their games. It will be tough to bet this team when they are favored because they are scrappy and seem to like to pull off close wins. In one three game stretch last season they won three games by a total of 12 points combined. Bet the Jest if they are underdogs. Bet the Jets if they are slight favorites. Do not bet the Jets if they are heavy favorites.
Key Matchups:
Week 1 vs. Dallas - See how they match up with the NFC power Dallas Cowboys. This will be a barometer for both teams. My guess is it could go either way.
Week 4 at Baltimore - Powerhouse rematch from last years week one in which the Jets lost by one point (10-9). Bet the Jets in this game.
Week 6 at New England - Inter Division foe should be a great matchup and a great game to watch. The Pats may only be favored by a few points. Take the Jets in this game.
