2010 NFL Preview
New Orleans Saints
2009 Record/Results: 13-3, Super Bowl Champions
New Orleans, and the entire state of Louisiana for that matter, have had a rough few years. The Oil Spill disaster won’t make things any easier. The one thing they’ve really been able to rally around is their football team. The 2009 New Orleans Saints gave fans what they needed with a 31-17 Super Bowl upset Victory over Indianapolis in February. It was their first NFL Championship.
As with any returning Super Bowl champs, the Saints will return in 2010 with a target on their back. With a tough schedule, they certainly won’t have it easy. They do, however, potentially have what it takes to repeat. New Orleans returns nearly every key player besides LB Scott Fujita who left to suit up with the Cleveland Browns in 2010. This season, it will be a matter of proving whether or not they’re as hungry as they were leading up to the 2009 season. Can they build on the success? Shoot for a perfect season? Or – with the shiny new rings, and new role of defenders instead of underdogs –will we see a dramatic decline in energy? I’d love to be proven wrong, but I’m afraid we’ll see the latter.
The Saints start their preseason on August 12th at New England. They then take on Houston, San Diego, and Tennessee before their first regular season game at home against Minnesota.
