Jets Go Head-To-Head Against The Patriots For 2011 Playoffs
The Jets and the Patriots are doing their talking off the field at the moment but will do their talking on the field in this AFC post-season match-up. The winner of this game will take on the winner of the Baltimore Ravens / Pittsburgh Steelers game. The Jets and the Patriots clashed twice during the season and home advantage won out on both occasions. The Patriots smashed the Jets by 45-3 the last time these two met and the Patriots have the better record in the recent series. In 21 games since 2001, the Patriots have won 15 times.
The Patriots topped the AFC East with a 14-2 record and the Jets came second with a standing of 11-5.
The Jets have been up and down
The Jets have experienced an up and down season. A win over New England was a highlight but a shut out loss to Green Bay was disappointing. The Jets experienced everything in between during the regular season but found success on the road in Indianapolis last week. A last second field goal from Nick Folk decided the match-up and kept the Jets on course in the Playoffs. If the Jets are to win this week, their running game will likely be a key factor. LaDainan Tomlinson and Shonn Greene have combined gathering over 1600 yards this season. The Pats allowed 108.8 on the ground this season so this could be the area where the Jets get some joy against the New England defence.
The Browns defeated the Patriots in mid-season but since then, the New England have been unbeaten. This winning streak has seen the Patriots average over 30 points a game and New England has a quarterback that looks a shoe-in for the MVP. Tom Brady picked up 36 touchdowns, threw 3900 yards and had only 4 interceptions for the season.
The Patriots are feeling the love
Due to this form, the Patriots are feeling the love from the odds makers and the spread is high for a Playoff game between two close rivals. The Patriots will likely win but with line taking New England at -9, the Jets can cover that. These odds seem based on the massacre between these two teams the last time they played but a score of that magnitude is unlikely. The Jets Rex Ryan admitted they set up with a defensive plan that was too complicated that day so the Jets will likely have something different in store this weekend.
