Favre Stays Retired
by FreePicks.org Staff
Brett Favre is officially retired, again. This week Brett Favre announced he is staying retired from the NFL. He has undergone a surgery and many physicals to try and be fit to play in the NFL this season. The Minnesota Vikings were courting him and it was close to being a done deal, according to our inside guys. "Brett's age finally caught up with him. He is just tired and doesn't want to undergo another long and grueling NFL campaign." says our inside source.
From the Horses Mouth:
It was the hardest decision I've ever made, Favre, 39, said. I didn't feel like physically I could play at a level that was acceptable. I would like to thank everyone, including the Packers, Jets and Vikings but, most importantly, the fans.
Favre added:
I had to be careful not to commit for the wrong reasons, Favre said. They were telling me, You went through all this, you had the surgery and you've got to finish it off. But I have legitimate reasons for my decision. I'm 39 with a lot of sacks to my name.
Realistically we think Favre would have been a good fit and an improvement over the top two QB's at Vikings camp. Those two QB's are Tavaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels. Both guys have some, but not a lot of NFL starting experience and very moderate success.
Favre lead the NFL in interceptions last season with 22 overall playing for the NY Jets. He had a matching TD number of 22 as well. Jackson's QB rating was better than all three players mentioned in this article. Be prepared for Jackson to be the main signal caller this season. |
