San Diego at Denver

The improving Chargers (6-3) travel to Denver to take on the recently struggling Broncos (6-3) in a battle that should start to determine AFC West dominance.  The Chargers, who struggled with early season losses, have won all of their last 4 games.  The Broncos started the season with 6 straight wins, but have lost their last 3 matchups; the most recent was a 17-27 loss at Washington.  The Chargers play to keep their winning streak and November run to the playoffs alive.  The Broncos, disappointed after an explosive start, hope end their recent drought and prove that they deserve to remain on top of the AFC West.  Denver beat San Diego in October, 34-23.

It looks like both teams are living up to expectations.  In typical style, the Broncos are losing steam.  It’s not the first time they’ve started off strong, only to disappoint later in the season.  They started off 8-5 last year, before losing their final three.  The Steelers started off 4-8 last season, before winning their last 4 and playing two games in the postseason.

The QB situation appears to be unclear for Denver, which certainly won’t help.  Kyle Orton might hang out on the sidelines this week after the ankle injury he suffered last week.  If unable to play, QB Chris Simms will start.  But is he ready?  Simms hasn’t started a game since September 24, 2006.  Expect the Chargers to take advantage of the QB situation and ride the momentum they have built thus far.  Even if Kyle Orton can play, the Broncos showed last week that they have some major adjustments to make.
