NFL Pittsburgh Steelers Team Preview 2009

Pittsburgh Steelers – 2009 Preview

2008 Record: 12-4 (Super Bowl Champions)

Head Coach: Mike Tomlin

Last year’s Super Bowl win was the Pittsburgh Steelers’ second in 4 years.  Mike Tomlin (second year Head Coach at the time), overcame one of the toughest schedules to take home the “Big One” in a 27-23 victory over the Arizona Cardinals.   With very few weaknesses on the team, star QB Ben Roethlisberger still in his prime, and a stable coaching staff,  it is not a stretch to say that the 2009 season might lead the Pittsburgh Steelers to their 3rd Super Bowl win in 5 seasons (and 8th Championship overall).

Even with some inconsistency on offense last year (ranked 20th overall), the Steelers have one of the best quarterbacks in the league.  Their defense lost a couple starters from last year, but with one of the best NFL defensive coordinators (Dick Lebeau) and even greater depth, there shouldn’t be much to worry about.  The 2009 football season will be another exciting one for Steelers’ fans.

The Pittsburgh Steelers start off their preseason vs. Arizona at home on Thursday, August 13th, 8:00PM.  They then play at Washington on the 22nd of August, vs. Buffalo at home on the 29th of August, and at Carolina on Thursday September 3rd – just one week before their regular season begins.

1 Thursday, September 10 vs. Tennessee 8:30 PM

Prediction:  Assuming that no key injuries occur, the Steelers will likely make the playoffs and have a decent shot at playing in (and even winning) the 2010 Super Bowl.

Record: 12-4

Odds that the Pittsburgh Steelers win the 2010 Super Bowl are 15-2 (according to Sportsbook.com)
