Washington Redskins – 2009 Preview
2008 Record: 8-8
Head Coach: Jim Zorn
Head Coach Jim Zorn is on the hot seat this season (in his second year), after going 8-8 in 2008. Redskins QB Jason Campbell will be coming back despite Washington’s attempt to replace him. They were unable to score QB Jay Cutler (free agent) or Mark Sanchez (USC’s star QB) over the offseason. They were, however, able to land one of the most dominant defensive tackles in the league, Albert Haynesworth. Predictions for the Eagles to win the NFC Championship jumped from 12-1 to 8-1 after he was signed.
Impatience is growing for Washington fans. Unfortunately, in 2009, it’s unlikely that the Redskins will be stuck near the .500 mark again. They’re in a tough conference, Jason Campbell still has a lot to prove, and the offensive line lacks speed. If Campbell and a few receivers can step it up, and if Haynesworth has the impact that Washington expects, we might see a slightly better team in 2009.
The Redskins start their preseason at Baltimore on Thursday, August 13th 7:30 PM ET. They then play Pittsburgh at home on August 22nd, New England at home on August 28th, and then at Jacksonville on September 3rd – ten days before their regular season begins.
