Jacksonville Jaguars – 2009 Preview
2008 Record: 5-11
Head Coach: Jack Del Rio
Contrary to many preseason predictions, the 2008 Jacksonville Jaguars failed to make the playoffs last year. Injuries played a large part in an ugly 5-11 season just one year after winning eleven games. The adversity that the Jaguars faced last year proved to be too much to handle.
Looking forward, the 2009 season looks like another tough road. Fortunately for Jacksonville fans, there is reason to have at least some preseason optimism. Over the offseason, the Jaguars brought in a few good players. Wide Receiver Torry Holt from St. Louis (one of the biggest names) is among them. With great hands and great speed, he has proven in recent years to be one of the most talented receivers in the league. The Jaguars also made some offensive line improvements with the signing of free agent Tra Thomas and by bringing Eben Britton and Eugene Monroe in from the draft.
Although the Jaguars might be looking better offensively this year, they had some defensive losses over the offseason. This isn’t good news for an already struggling squad. Mike Peterson, Paul Spicer, and Tony McDaniel were among those lost. To be successful on defense, the Jaguars will have to depend on young players to step up.
The Jacksonville Jaguars begin their preseason at Miami on Monday, August 17th, 7:30PM ET. They then play Tampa Bay at home on August 22nd, at Philadelphia on August 27th, and Washington at home on September 3rd.
