NY Giants – 2009 Preview
2008 Record: 12-4
Head Coach: Tom Coughlin
After what looked like a sprint towards another Super Bowl win, The New York Giants had a disappointing end to their 2008 season. They went 11-1 only to lose receiver Plaxico Burress and four of their last five games. Although his menacing behavior (mostly off the field) will not be missed, his presence will be. It’s already obvious that without Burress, the Giants are a weaker team. In 2009, the Giants will have to count on others (possibly Domenik Hixon, Mario Manningham, Hakeem Nicks, and Ramses Barden) to step up and produce some big plays. Derrick Ward, who broke the 1,000 rushing yard barrier last year, might see even more this year as he becomes the go-to-guy more often.
With an offensive line as good as any in the NFL, and a Osi Umenyiora healthy and back to lead an intense pass rush on defense, Giants fans can expect another good season; maybe better than last year now that they’ve had some time to adjust to the loss of Plaxico Burress.
The New York Giants begin their preseason against Carolina at home on Monday, August 17th, 8PM ET. They then play at Chicago on August 22nd, against the New York Jets at home on August 29th, and then at New England on September 3rd – ten days before their regular season begins.
