Denver Broncos – 2009 Preview
2008 Record: 8-8
Head Coach: Josh McDaniels
Right now it’s hard for Broncos fans to be too excited about the upcoming season. Losing their final three games last year, Denver blew their shot at winning the AFC West in 2008. Their year-end performance brought about the firing of Head Coach Mike Shanahan. The Broncos face great uncertainty going into the 2009 season. With a new head coach (Josh McDaniels from New England), a new defensive scheme (3-4 Hybrid brought to you by defensive coordinator Nick Nolan), and Jay Cutler traded, things will be very different. Consider 2009 a rebuilding season for the Denver Broncos.
The whole team, especially QB Kyle Orton, will need to prove that they can adjust quickly if they want to come anywhere near a winning season. The Broncos haven’t seen the playoffs since 2005. Expect a playoff appearance after the 2010 season, but not this soon. The changes being made will likely prove to be too much to handle for now. It will be a tough season at home and on the road.
The Broncos start off their preseason on August 14th as they take on The San Francisco 49ers at Candlestick Park. They then play at Seattle Aug 22, at home vs. Chicago on Aug 30, and at home vs. Arizona on Sept 3.
