Week 3
No. 1 Oklahoma at No. 5 Florida State
This is by far the top matchup of the weekend. The Oklahoma Sooners are three point favorites (-3) at The Seminoles of Florida State. These two teams have a bit of a history. They aren't division foes or anything of that nature. And they don't play all that often (Just twice in almost 30 years). But when they do play they usually have a lot on the line because these are two very storied programs. One year not very long ago they played each other for the National Championship. Oklahoma was the winner.
Last year the Noles went into Norman, Oklahoma and got steam rolled 47-17. "They blew us out bad last year," said quarterback EJ Manuel, "They played great. Last year was their year. We definitely want to go out there and play well this year." That was last year when Florida State wasn't ranked number five in the nation.
Oklahoma is seeing more action from bettors than F.S.U. People like to bet on the number 1 team vs. anybody, even if it is on the road against a worthy opponent like F.S.U. The spread came out at Oklahoma -3.5 but the sharps have bet it down and have been keeping it at 3.
Oklahoma QB Landry Jones is having an amazing season thus far. He was 35 of 47 for 375 yards and a TD two weeks ago against Tulsa, granted, Florida State has a much better defense than does Tulsa. Between Ok and FSU the contest has been lopsided. Oklahoma has won it's last five contests vs. Florida Sate. Oklahoma is also on another run of sorts; they are 5-1 ATS (Against the Spread) in their last six games.
Florida State however is 4-0 in their last 4 road non-conference games. So there is some reason to think both ways here based on trends. How do you bet against the number one team in the country when only favored by three? Conversely, how do you bet against number five when playing at home and getting points? These are tough questions to answer.
