Charlie Weis Hot Seat
by FreePicks.org Staff
The fifth year in Charlie Weis' college football career is most definitely do or die. Charlie Weis, as we all know, was a coordinator for three time Super Bowl champ New England Patriots before his alma mater came-a-callin'. The story started like one from a fairy tale. Weis went 9-2 and 10-2 his first two seasons. Since, he and his beloved program has fallen on hard times. The Irish have had seasons of 3-9 and 6-6 respectively. The latter records being bad enough enough to get any major college coach canned.
But Weis and Irish boosters have put all their hopes and dreams on the shoulders of one Jimmy Clausen. The much vaunted QB started for the Irish as a freshmen part time and fully took over the reigns before last season. This is the season where all the pieces are supposed to fit and the Irish take a shot at the national title. This dream may become a reality as the Irish return many starters and the several 'top 10 recruiting classes' reach maturity.
Many sportsbooks feel the Irish should have a good season as well. The Over-Under for season wins is 8.5 at many shops. The trials will come early for Notre Dame as they take on Michigan in South Bend and head to Lansing to take on Michigan State the following week. However the Irish play 13 regular season games so getting to 9 wins should be a completely obtainable goal. I personally would take OVER on the 8.5.
