Texas To Bounce Back To Beat The Odds Against Connecticut
The Texas Longhorns have been enjoying a great run of form this season and their stats go a long way to proving this.
The overall record for the Texas Longhorns this season stands at an impressive 14-3, with two of those defeats having a margin of less than three points. Only the 73-56 loss to USC in December stands out as a major defeat for the Longhorns this season.
Jordan Hamilton has been a standout player for the Longhorns this campaign and leads the way in the scoring charts. Hamilton has racked up an impressive 327 points, which sees him with a 19.2 points average per game. Tristan Thompson is second in the point scoring charts with 218 points and 12.8 points per game average. Thompson also has the highest rebounds average, charting up 7.8 per game.
Texas looking good in the Big 12
When it comes to the Big 12 games, Texas have played two so far and their record stands at 2-0. An 83-52 victory at Texas Tech was the first Big 12 win of the year and this was followed by a home victory over Oklahoma by 66-46. These represent two crushing victories for the Longhorns and the playing stats make positive reading to.
In the matchup against Texas Tech, two players achieved high points of 20 with Tristan Thompson leading the way. The same game saw Gary Johnson notch up 10 rebounds. The match against Oklahoma saw Thompson lead the way with on rebounds with 8 but the highest points were scored by Jordan Hamilton, who collected 17 points.
Rick Barnes has a great Big 12 record
This 2-0 start to the Big 12 campaign is nothing new for the Longhorns and their early success goes back a long way. In the 13 campaigns under Rick Barnes, the ‘Horns have went 2-0 in Big 12 starts 10 times. It was however the first time Texas started the Big 12 campaign with back to back wins of 20+ point winning margins since the 2006/07 campaign.
All of this means Texas are in good shape for the Big 12 but the problem lies in facing teams of high quality. The Longhorns were able to dismiss most of their opponents in the non-conference games without too much difficulty but as sports fan will tell you, this is the important part of the campaign.
Forthcoming games against Texas A&M, Kansas and Oklahoma State will likely provide a sterner test to the Longhorns.
