Va. Tech vs. Duke

Virginia Tech travels to Durham, NC tonight to take on the 6th ranked Duke Blue Devils. The 21-4 Hokies hope to take down a top-ranked team while extending their winning streak to 6 in a row. It won’t be easy. The Blue Devils are 22-4, on a 5-game winning streak, with their last at Miami, 81-74. Virginia Tech, who comes off a Wake Forest victory, is anxious to show what they’re capable of as they take on Duke and some rowdy opposing fans.
Even with similar records going into this game, there are a couple things to consider about Duke. One, they have yet to lose at home. And, two, they’ve had a much stiffer schedule than the Virginia Tech Hokies. Their losses have come to Wisconsin, Georgia Tech, North Carolina State, and Georgetown.
Virginia Tech, who’s been close to cracking the top-25, desperately needs this win to capture the attention of the nation. A win would nearly guarantee a spot in the top-20. A loss, on the other hand, would take the Hokies back a step, and out of discussion.
The oddsmakers seem to think that this will be a blowout. The spread is currently 12.5 points with Duke favored. The total is listed at 140 with both teams playing at -110. Number 6 Duke and their home court advantage should be able to secure a straight-up win. Don’t be surprised, however, if the Hokies manage to come within 5-10 points.
