Duke vs. Virginia
Sunday, February 28, 2010 – 7:45 PM ET on FSN
The fifth ranked Duke Blue Devils (24-4) travel to Virginia to take on the struggling Cavaliers. Virginia (14-12) has lost their last 6 games, with the most recent at Miami, 74-62. The Blue Devils come off of a 70-52 victory over Tulsa and have won their last 7 straight games. Duke is favored by about ten points in this matchup. The total is listed at 132. The last time these two teams met up, resulted in a 79-54 Duke victory.
Although highly favored, Duke can’t afford to look past Virginia tonight with ACC title hopes still on the line. They visit Maryland on Wednesday and then host North Carolina on the sixth of March. Duke will be led by Jon Scheyer, Nolan Smith and Kyle Singler. Combined, they scored 50 points against Tulsa. Another win tonight will give the Blue Devils their fourth straight road win.
The Cavaliers, hungry to end their losing streak and make a statement, will pull everybody together to try and make this one a game. Their biggest struggles recently have come on offense. They’ve averaged just over 57 points per game during their losing streak. Virginia will look to Sophomore Sylven Landesburg to make an impact tonight. Landesburg averages 17.4 points per game and finished up with 27 points against the Hurricanes. He was 6 for 8 at the three-point range.
The Blue Devils are 25-3 against Virginia in their last 28 games. In the last two years, Duke has beaten the Virginia Cavaliers by more than 20 points. The last close one was in February of 2007 when the Blue Devils beat the Cavaliers by only 2 points in a 68-66 victory.
