New York Knicks (20-38) at Cleveland Cavaliers (46-14) Quicken Loans Arena, Cleveland, OH, 7 PM 3/1/10
Normally a game between a team that is 18 games under .500 against a team that is 30 games over .500 and the top seed in the conference wouldn’t generate any interest. This game is sure to generate some chatter though, as it is no secret that the Knicks are interested in signing Cavs guard LeBron James, who is a free agent at the end of the year. While it seems that James has a much better shot at winning quickly with the Cavs, the Knicks are unique in that they are the only team with enough salary cap room to sign two free agents to maximum contracts. This could mean that James could be paired with the likes of aChris Bosh, from the Raptors if things worked in New York’s favor.
The Knicks need a light at the end of the tunnel, as this season has been disastrous. They lost 8 in a row before their recent win at Washington. David Lee has proven he is one of the top forwards in the league, with over 20 points and 10 rebounds per game. Tracy McGrady, who was recently acquired by the Knicks at the trade deadline seems to be healthy enough to play, but clearly is not the same player he used to be. That is about all to report from Knicks camp, as their management has gone all-or-nothing for this offseason, betting that someone like James will be lured by Madison Square Garden.
This is the last thing the Cavs would want to see. They finally matched their franchise player up with a set of supporting actors that have a legitimate shot at the championship. Antawn Jamison has put up solid numbers since his arrival at the trade deadline. The Cavs seem to be back to their winning ways after a recent three game skid following the All Star break. James and his nearly 30 points per game will be key for the remainder of the season.
The Knicks haven’t done much to showcase themselves in front of James this season. The Cavs already have beaten the Knicks twice this season and are looking for the sweep in this game.
Cleveland is favored by 11 points. The total is listed at 212.
