Cleveland Cavaliers (61-20) at Atlanta Hawks (52-29) 4/14, 8PM
In the final tuneup before the playoffs begin, Cleveland should be basically back up to full strength and Atlanta will try to end what has been their best year in over a decade on a good note.
The Cavaliers, despite clinching the Central division and Eastern Conference regular season title, have lost three games in a row. LeBron James has been out for those three games in order to prevent a needless injury. Shaquille O’neal has been out since he injured his thumb on February 25 against Boston. Shaq has been cleared to play and James should be back for a final tune-p before the playoffs begin. After losing only two games in March, the Cavs have gone just 2-4 in April. They will hope to be able to turn on their “A-game” once the playoffs start. Having James back will help. He averages 29.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 8.6 assists per game. It is still not certain whether James will actually suit up for this final game. The Cavs are clearly nervous about losing him.
Atlanta has won three in a row, and looks set to make a run in the playoffs. This is the first time the Hawks have won over 50 games in over a decade. Joe Johnson has proven he is one of the premier stars in the league, just in time for a new contract, as he has averaged 21.3 points and 4.9 assists per game. Al Horford helps inside with 9.9 rebounds per game. The Hawks should be happy to be playing at home in this game, as they have a 33-7 home record, and just a 19-22 record away from Atlanta.
This is the final game of the season and also the last chance for the Hawks to get a win against the Cavs. Cleveland won the first three games this year, Atlanta will try to avoid a season sweep.
Atlanta is favored by 4.5 points. The total is listed at 196.
