2010 College Football Preview

Before the bet – know your stuff

Betting on college football isn’t just about knowing your spreads and stats.  It’s about getting involved, knowing your stuff, knowing your teams, and knowing the storylines.  It’s about understanding the numbers, considering the “intangibles”, and making the best decision based on the information you’re presented with.  College football’s offseason was a wild one; unpredictable and full of change.  With only 45 days left, we’re almost there, and at the same time, it ain’t over.  SEC Media days start on Wednesday, which mark the beginning of the college football preseason.  In case you’ve been living under a rock, here’s what’s been going on, and what to look for as the season rapidly approaches.

A few of the Top Headlines:

  1. Alabama

Defending Champs, Alabama (who beat Texas 37-21 in the national championship) will need to effectively replace nine defensive starters.  Still, they’re a popular choice to win a repeat title.  Most preseason polls, including ours, have the Crimson Tide in the number 1 spot.

2.Conference Mix-up – The Big 12 has ten and the Big 10 has twelve???

Nebraska and Colorado stir up emotions and some long traditions as they play their last regular seasons in the Big 12.  Nebraska leaves to play ball with the Big 10 in 2011.  Their membership puts the Big 10 team total at 12.  Colorado and Utah will leave for the Pac 10, and Boise State moves to the Mountain West.  The Big 10 and Pac 10 might not be done with their expansion efforts.  Surprisingly, the rest of the Big 12 stays intact for now.

 3.New Coach at Florida State

It’ll be a tough but exciting year for Florida State Head Coach Jimbo Fisher takes over.  He’s the first new Head Coach since Bobby Bowden took over in 1976.

 4.The Big 12 – a different league?

This one has nothing to do with the conference shakeup.  It’s about coaching changes and the loss of some crazy talent.  The Big 12 will be minus players Sam Bradford, Colt McCoy, and Ndamukong Suh.  Head Coach Tommy Tuberville takes over at Texas Tech.  Turner Gill takes over at Kansas.
